flmRaised in and baptized at the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at the age of five, I was already I was well on my way to memorizing scripture.    By that time, I had already begun the task of memorizing the books of the Bible, and scripture passages.  Therefore, when I promised so send the students in this semester’s Financial Leadership for ministry class passages of scripture for their sermon preparation assignment, I began to compile passages I knew from memory.  To add to those passages, I took to the internet.  I discovered a link associated with Sean Hyman who appears regularly on Fox Business News, CNBC, and Bloomberg Television.  A former pastor, Hyman claims that his secret to investing is woven within the Bible (http://www.moneynews.com/MKTNews/biblical-money-code-financial/2014/09/30/id/597805/?dkt_nbr=jfeqjkuj&utm_source=taboola&utm_medium=referral).  His assertion that there is a biblical code led me to reflect on this principal, thus, the impetus of this article.

Although the video did not provide the “biblical code,”) the viewer has to purchase that), I began reflecting on this principle and began my internet search for a resource.   I discovered a resource, http://christianpf.com/money-in-the-bible/#budgeting, the contains 250 scriptural references about money. I also realized that although I memorized scripture, I was never encouraged to reflect and meditate on it.  The tenets of Memphis Theological Seminary, “Scholarship, Piety and Justice,” were missing during my early spiritual formation.

“Is there Actually a Biblical Money Code Woven into Scripture?”   I believe that there are connections waiting to be discovered.  As faith leaders, it is important that we not only make these connections, but also develop a personal biblical and theological perspective that we can articulate and live out in our lives and in the lives of the people God has called us to serve.  This is essential if we are to “Re-Discover God’s Economy.”
